Frequently asked questions

Loan basics

What is a payday loan?
A payday loan, or cash advance, is a small-dollar loan, typically $100-$1,000, repaid in one payment on your next payday, two to four weeks out. It exists for urgent one-off expenses, not for closing a monthly budget gap that never ends.
How is that different from an installment loan?
A payday advance is one lump sum on one due date. An installment loan spreads $100-$5,000 across three to twenty-four months of fixed payments. Installments cost less per dollar and are kinder to a single paycheck; the price is a longer commitment.
How much can I borrow?
The payday market tops out near $1,000 per cycle and several states cap lower: $500 in Alabama, $255 net in California, $700 in Washington. Larger amounts belong to the installment market, which runs to $5,000; our $1,200-$1,400 guide and $2,000 page cover the range above the ceiling.
Which states do you serve?
We publish pages for 37 licensed payday states plus a tribal layer across 46 jurisdictions, including the states that ban payday lending outright. Every state page lists its cap, fee structure, statute and regulator, and the rates and fees table compares them side by side.

Costs, credit and repayment

How much does a payday loan cost?
Fees run $10-$30 per $100 borrowed, which annualizes to roughly 400%-660% APR on a two-week term. State caps set the exact number, and every state page shows the local maximum fee with a worked example computed from the published rules.
Can I apply with bad credit or no credit?
You can always request; approval is the lender's call. The review leans on income regularity with soft checks at the request stage, so a low score is not an automatic no. Each lender sets its own criteria, and none of them guarantees approval.
Will a payday loan affect my credit score?
The request usually leaves no mark: soft checks are invisible to other lenders. Most payday lenders do not report on-time repayments, but a default sold to collections will hurt the file. The full picture is in our guide on payday loans and credit.
What happens if I cannot repay on time?
Expect a returned-item fee from your bank, late charges from the lender, and in most states a rollover that recharges the fee on the same principal. Several states mandate a no-cost extended payment plan; ask before the due date. Our debt cycle guide maps the exits.
Can I repay early?
Yes, and reputable lenders charge no prepayment penalty on single-cycle advances. On interest-bearing installment products, early payoff removes the remaining interest, so the payoff figure sits below the scheduled total. Confirm it in writing before sending money.

Applying through this site

Who is eligible to apply?
The baseline is network-wide: at least 18 years old, verifiable income (typically $800-$1,000 a month or more), an active checking account, and a working phone or email. Meeting the baseline starts the review; it does not promise the outcome.
How fast do I get the money?
Decisions usually arrive within minutes of the form. After you accept an offer, direct deposit typically lands the next business day; approvals that clear early on a banking day are sometimes funded the same day, depending on the lender and your bank.
Is it safe to enter my bank details?
The request travels over an encrypted connection, and lenders need the account only to deposit funds and collect the agreed repayment. This site never charges applicants, and no legitimate lender asks for upfront cash by gift card or wire before approving a loan.
Do you offer tribal loans?
Yes. Tribal loans are installment products from lenders chartered by federally recognized tribes, operating under tribal and federal law. They approve borrowers the licensed markets decline, including residents of states that ban payday lending, at typically 400%-800% APR. Price the regulated options first.
How do I spot a payday loan scam?
The classics: guaranteed approval before any review, upfront fees by gift card or wire, no license or physical address, and pressure to act in minutes. Our scam checklist walks through every signal.
Is this site a lender? Is it a tribe?
Neither. Wea Tribal Loans is an independent publishing and referral service, not a lender, not a broker making credit decisions, and not a tribe or an affiliate of any federally recognized tribe. We are compensated by participating lenders for advertising services, never by applicants.
